As we wind down this very strange year, I want to thank you for joining us. By reading Knowable Magazine, you are demonstrating a commitment to science: to carefully evaluating evidence; to approaching questions and conundrums about the world with curiosity, clear head and healthy skepticism; and to understanding that the scientific process equips us with powerful tools to tackle the myriad issues facing society — during the pandemic and beyond.

As you consider your end-of-year giving, I want to remind everyone that the CARES Act passed in the early days of the pandemic provides some additional tax benefits for charitable giving in 2020 — for large and small donors alike. For example, even people who do not itemize can deduct up to $300 in qualifying charitable contributions this year, and those who do itemize can deduct more than in previous years.
